Service Guidelines

The City of Santa Clarita requires each occupied residence to maintain weekly trash and recycling services. The following information is provided for your benefit.


Required Single-Family Residential Service

The trash cart is a 96-gallon blue container with a 250 lb. weight limit.

Please place all carts out at curbside by 6:00 a.m. on your regularly scheduled service day. To avoid missing you, it's always best to put your carts out the night before.

Carts should be placed at curbside with the lids opening toward the street and the handle away from the street. Please do not place next to mailboxes, trees, basketball hoops, vehicles or other obstacles that may prevent the truck's automated arm from picking up the cart. Carts should be three feet away from free standing objects in each direction.


Resident Responsibility of Cart

Each resident is responsible for the cleaning and security of the trash and recycling carts. If your cart is damaged, destroyed or lost, other than by normal usage, please call our Customer Service Center at (661) 259-2398 for repair or replacement.


Rates
  • Standard residential service - $17.28 per month
  • Additional trash carts - $10.64 per month
  • Additional greenwaste and recycling - no charge
  • Eight extra bag pickups per year, three extra bags each time - no charge

    Maximum Weight Limits

    To avoid having an overweight cart, or causing possible damage to the cart or truck, do not place rocks, concrete, brick or dirt in carts. All trash inside must fall out when the cart is serviced. Please do not overfill or compact waste into the cart.

    If the cart is overweight, the driver will attempt to service it and notify you by leaving an Important Notice tag attached to the cart. If however, we are unable to empty the cart, the cart will be tagged overweight and you will need to lighten the contents for the following week’s service.

    If you have more garbage than will fit in your cart, it's considered extra, and there is a charge for removal. For large quantities or items that don't fit in your cart we have debris boxes available for rental.


    Bulky Item Pickup

    Bulky items such as old couches, refrigerators and stoves can be dropped off at the Blue Barrel facility Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Additionally, Waste Management/Blue Barrel will pick up your bulky items, including e-waste, at your curbside. Please call Customer Service at (661) 259-2398 48 hours in advance of your regularly scheduled pickup day and your bulky items will be picked up at your curb. Residents are entitled to four bulky item pickups per year with a limit of three bulky items per pickup.


    Extra Bag Pickup

    Up to eight times per year, WM/Blue Barrel will pick up three extra bags from your curb at no additional charge. The extra pickups must be scheduled 24 hours advance by calling Customer Service at (661) 259-2398.


    Holiday Schedule

    We will be closed for business on the following six holidays:
  • New Years Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day

    On these weeks, collection will be one day later than usual, unless the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday.
